Dr. Claudette Nebelsick McCarty, 78, passed away on April 1, 2013. She was born in Chicago on June 5, 1934 to Albert and Idolyn Nebelsick. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Dr. Bruce McCarty. She is survived by her sisters, Gwen Mahler and LuluLee Levy, her life-long best friend, Mary Ann Conaway, her 5 children (Lee McCarty Fruhling, Meg McCarty Shelly, Bruce McCarty, Michael McCarty and Christopher McCarty) and 8 grandchildren (David and Caroline Fruhling, Michael and Andrew Shelly, Thomas and Jane McCarty and Christopher and Nicholas McCarty). Claudette graduated from Indiana University in 1956 and earned her Masters from Purdue University in 1961. She continued her education and earned her Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati in Counseling Psychology and Psychometry in 1981. Claudette always strove to be a positive force for her family and her community. In addition to her years teaching and counseling at Cincinnati State and Technical College, she invested her time in her children’s activities as well as many of the arts and civic organizations within Cincinnati. She served as President of Cincinnati Summer Opera’s Women’s Committee and later served many years on the Opera Guild Board as a lifetime honorary Board member. She was President of the Symphony Women’s Committee, was involved with the Cincinnati Ballet, the Park Board, the Great Rivers Girl Scout Council and many other civic organizations. In 1988, she was honored at Cincinnati’s bicentennial celebration as one of Cincinnati’s “Top 200 Citizens.” As a grandmother, she spent many hours on the sidelines of soccer fields cheering on her beloved grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 13th at Neidhard-Minges funeral home at 3155 Harrison Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211. The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 PM with service beginning at 3:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cincinnati Opera. neidhardminges.com
