Larry L. Schwartz, formerly of Kokomo, IN, died peacefully in the Lund Family Hospice Center in Gilbert at the age of 75. The son of Phillip and Marie Schwartz, he was born at home in Hildreth, NE on Feb. 4 1937. As a young man he worked at the family’s John Deere implement dealership and on family farms in Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Kansas. He graduated Hildreth High School in 1954 and went on to attend Midland Lutheran College in Freemont, NE where he married the former Rosalie Ruth Keiser, also of Hildreth, on April 28th, 1957.
He left Midland to join the Air Force, serving for 4 years as an electronics technician stationed in Puerto Rico. Upon leaving the service he returned to graduate from the University of Nebraska in 1963 with a degree in electrical engineering. He accepted a position with Delco Electronics’ military division in Milwaukee, WI, where he worked on the Titan ICBM and Abrams Tank. In Milwaukee he attended night school, earning an MBA from Marquette University.
In 1972 he was transferred to AC Delco in Kokomo, IN, where he worked on automotive projects including early navigation systems, computer controls, and electronic fuel injection. He travelled often to Europe and the Far East. He retired in 1999 and moved to Sun Lakes. After Rosalie’s death he met and married the former Joyce Kuehl of Spirit Lake, IA, where they spent their summers.
Larry was a faithful member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir and was a church elder. He was instrumental in starting the Sunday school in the current facility, as well as the Preschool and Kindergarten. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading and travel.
Larry is survived by his wife Joyce, his daughter Andrea, his son Cory, his stepdaughter Kim, his stepson Nathan, and 13 grandchildren.
