Clara I. Nebelsick, age 74 of Nebraska City passed away on Saturday; August 15, 2015 at Duff’s Friendship Villa in Nebr. City.

Clara Irene Nebelsick was born on March 7, 1941 on the family farm near Tabor, IA; the daughter of Tom and Nellie (Shaffar) Smith. The youngest of nine children, she grew up in the country and was no stranger to hard work earning the nickname “Greasy Ike” from her father. She was full of adventure, mischief and spirit.

Shortly after graduation from Tabor Fremont Mills High School, she married Bob Van Horn. Bob suffered an untimely death at the age of 19, leaving her with an infant son Tony. On March 8, 1962 she was married to the love of her life Larry L. Nebelsick and they danced through 53 wonderful years together.

She is survived by her husband Larry Nebelsick of Nebr. City; son Tony Nebelsick and wife Eva of Omaha, NE; son Timothy Nebelsick and significant other Deb of Nebr. City and a daughter Deone Gibbs and husband Mike of Nebr. City. She was blessed with five grandsons: Joshua, Zachary, Anthony, Travis and Evan; along with two granddaughters: Andrea and Samantha and a great-grandson Oliver. Also surviving are siblings: Jerry Smith and wife Ellen of Sidney, IA, Norma Leffingwell of Tabor, IA, Vern Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, Louis Smith and wife Eileen of Sidney, IA and Dwight Smith and wife Madonna of Tabor, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters: Faye Smith and Fern Smith at a very young age and Naomi Smith.

Clara lived a full and meaningful life and will continue to live on in the numerous lives that she touched. She loved and was loved by her family, her friends and by her God. She goes now to join departed loved ones in heaven and patiently waits for us there.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday morning (8/19) at 10:00 a.m. at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City with Pastor Terry Weible officiating. Burial will follow the services.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.

Memorials may be given to Hearts United for Animals in her memory.
